- Excellent The resort was beautiful but the staff made the experience.
We didn't book the food package because we thought 2 courses at lunch time and 3 at dinner was just too much and we found after a large breakfast we didn't need that many, but all the food was top quality.
We stayed in one of the Bure's with a pool and that was amazing. The outdoor shower was also great in fact the indoor one never got used.
All the staff were so lovely, friendly and helpful it was so sad when it was time to leave.
I wasn't sure about booking for 5 night, I did wonder how we would manage doing nothing but the time went so quick I should have booked longer.
I would highly recommend staying just bring some reef shoes as there are a few stones at the waters edge.Glenda W10/18/2024This resort was nothing short of amazing. I wouldn’t even bother to focus on any of the subpar reviews, because there has to be something seriously wrong with someone not to like this resort or to have a negative opinion. The staff goes above and beyond to make you feel welcome, they go out of there way to know you on a first name basis. The food was outstanding. Fijians are so genuine and welcoming. I had the best time at the Tropica Island Resort. Tito and Sherry are the best, incredible people. I usually don’t vacation at the same place twice, but I would definitely come back here simply because of those two. Wow is all I can say. You will not be disappointed in the slightest to spend time at this resort.Steve Landman10/16/2024Tropica Island Resort was the perfect relaxing getaway! Being on Malolo Island and adults only resort was peaceful. We had an oceanfront view with pool Bure complete with indoor and outdoor showers. The view was breathtaking and the room super comfortable. The staff was very friendly and super hospitable. Everyday they have activities set up and they go out of their way to make your stay as comfortable and memorable as possible. We were celebrating our 21st anniversary and the pier seafood dinner was spectacular. The decor they surprised us with on our Bure entrance and the Happy Anniversary sign on our bed was a testament to attention to detail this amazing staff have. If you're looking for excursions every day might be challenging since this is not the mainland so excursions are limited. The beach is amazing for snorkeling but water shoes are recommended since there are lots of rocks as you enter the water. The sand is raked every morning but it's a short strip of sand before the water and rocks start. They have a bar and restaurant which changes menu for dinner every evening. They also have a main infinity pool and beautifully manicured grounds. We were sad to leave. We will definitely be returning to stay in Bure lima. Vinaka vakalevu amazing Tropica staff!Marce M10/16/2024An excellent and special place to just escape. This was an incredible place to stay--quiet, relaxing, and undemanding. The staff is all friendly, and within a day, they were calling me by name. As an adults-only resort, it makes the place much more enjoyable, since there isn't screaming or yelling and no crazy activity at the main pool. The food and drink are all good too! Highly recommended if you're looking to relax and just get away from everything, or have a special, memorable vacation.
To get there, you have to travel by boat or ship from Nadi, Fiji. Both South Sea Cruises and the Malolo Cat are the typical ways one would arrive, and you need to coordinate ahead of time with the resort so they can ensure their boat meets you to take you to the resort. When you arrive, you're immediately welcomed by singers. Accommodations range from bures with pools to bures without dipping pools. They all have outdoor showers (I never actually used the indoor shower), a small refrigerator, and an AC unit. There aren't any TVs. Wifi internet is available in the common areas.
Breakfast is included, but lunch and dinner are either by meal plan or charged to your room for payment at check-out. The meals were all excellent, and the way it worked out for me, it was way cheaper to just pay for each meal rather than go for a meal plan. There's a variety of choices at dinner as well, which change from day to day. I really liked the BLT with fries at lunch; their fries were really good!
Customer service is excellent. I was able to arrange for a day trip back to Nadi to do a little sightseeing, and the staff helped arranged that. After a few days, I had begun learning the names of the staff as well, because they are all so friendly.
There are daily activities, like snorkeling, paddle boarding, kayaking, a village visit. Some may cost extra--like snorkeling to a location away from the resort or visiting a village. But if you want free activities, you can snorkel or kayak right from the beach. There's daily fish feeding too. For extra cost, you can have a private dinner on the pier or watch the sunset from a private point.
Sunsets and happy hour are a special time, and the resort has a superb view for sunsets.
At the end of my five-night stay, I was really sad to leave because I felt so relaxed and happy.anthony h10/13/2024Fantastic peaceful holiday We recently spent 6 nights at this lovely resort and didn't want to leave. As it is a small resort with no children it felt very intimate and tranquil. The staff are very welcoming and friendly and nothing was too much trouble. The food was good and prices were similar to what you would pay in Australia. The breakfast menu was the same each day (a continental buffet plus a hot meal a la carte) but the dinner menu (a la carte only) changed each day so there was plenty of variety. The bure had a small bar fridge and a coffee plunger but you will need to bring food from the mainland if you want fruit or cheese as the resort shop only had a limited range of snacks such as chips.
There was reasonable snorkelling from the beach but as expected the greater diversity of coral and fish was on the daily boat trips - we highly recommend Garden Reef in particular. They also have plenty of kayaks and paddle boards for guest use.
If you want a peaceful beach holiday with Fijian hospitality, go to Tropica!Susan & Khoa10/03/2024We had the perfect relaxing stay at Tropica. The resort organised the transfer from pick up at our Nandi Hotel and drop off at the airport ( additional charge but worth every penny) The resort is secluded and very private. It is a small adult only resort and guaranteed relaxation. The service was excellent, the staff were very friendly and nothing is too much.Definitely recommend the rejuvenation package. The spa facility is brilliant, and the private picnic with great snorkelling is a must. The resort has plenty of daily activities if you want to keep busy or just forget about the world and stay put.The food is one of the better amongst other places and changes daily alacarte. The rooms are very clean and well serviced.Private outdoor shower and your own plunge pool. Will be back!Zoltan Waxman10/01/2024Beautiful island stay Pros
Beautiful location, bar is set right up on the water, beautiful sunsets. The daily fish feeding on the jetty was a highlight for us!
Most staff were friendly and very attentative, drinks were reasonably priced for fiji standards and food was more than acceptable with the dinner menu changing every day so this gave some good variety. The included breakfast had a basic buffet of fruit, cereals, pastries, muffins, ham, cheese, yoghurt and chia puddings and juicer to make your own fresh juice as well as a menu of hot items to choose from (pancakes, corn fritters, omelettes etc) and unlimited tea and plunger coffee. Barista coffee could be ordered at an extra charge.
We stayed in a sanctuary pool suite which was a decebt size with good sitting area and quite private and set up behind the main restaurant/reception area. We had our own private plunge pool, the suite had double sinks, double shower and an outdoor shower. A king bed, mini fridge. Turn down service every night and were provided print off of the planned activities for the next day
We enjoyed sitting by the bar on the waterfront in the afternoons and watching the sunset and marine life swim by, one of the barman "V" was very helpful and very attentative! He helped arrange a driver and other activties in sigatoka after we left tropica and tried to help us organise another trip with locals.. but the weather ruined our plans.
Snorkelling right off the Jetty was pretty good with lots of fish to see. I hear the snorkelling at the outer reefs and rock island was also very good, but didnt get a chance to do this due to the weather
Cons
The weather was unfavourable and all watersports and excursions were cancelled up until the last 2 days and even then it was not great. They were a little unorganised and alot of the time other activties planned didnt happen. It would have been good if the planned land based activties went ahead or even better if additional activities were planned on bad weather days.
Even though the resort is on malolo island you are very restricted, theres no access to the other island resorts and you can only walk about 5min in either direction of the resort jetty. This was quite dissapointing as I had read about hikes on the island.. but these were not accessible. The bar by the water was closed from approx 3- 5pm drinks could be ordered at restaurant / pool bar but it would have be nice to order directly at waterfront front bar in the afternoons
Feedback to management
A small gym, and some more land based activties and walking tracks/ trails would be a welcome addition as well as more resort organised activities/ tours available at affordable prices eg handline fishing, island hopping, guided kayak tours, cooking classes, fire walking etc.
Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend to others and would return!Felicity W9/18/2024Darren Bean9/17/2024Birthday celebration We had a ocean bure with a infinity pool. On arrival and the whole time there we were treated exceptional. We stayed 5 nights and they were fantastic. The meals changed for dinner every night. The breakfast was enough that we never stopped for lunch. Snorkelling every morning then a swim in our pool then relax, a afternoon outdoor shower and wander down for happy hour. Staff couldn't do enough for you. Garden staff climbing a coconut tree to get you one to have was just special. Looking forward to going back for a longer stay.dirty669/17/2024 - Tropica delivered the goods. Very relaxing and friendly staff. The resort was clean, we had a great time relaxing and snorkelling 20 seconds from your doorstep was perfect. Friendly staff with clean resort was worth spending the week there. Plenty of additional activities available to do as much or as little as you wish.John K9/16/2024Thank you Tropica! We can only add to the other rave reviews after spending two weeks here for our honeymoon in August 2024. We had an amazing time making memories in this little piece of paradise. The views are beautiful and it's hard to take a bad photo! Sunsets are wonderful and the bar with happy hour is a perfect place to enjoy them. The laid back style of the resort and privacy of the beach bure and plunge pool is idyllic and wonderfully relaxing. The staff become friends over the week. Would have liked to get out to the Gardens reef o but too windy for safe snorkelling. Next time!denise h9/01/2024Thank you to the Tropica Resort staff for making our stay at there so relaxing and nice way to celebrate my partner and I's anniversary. Like so many of the other reviews here, I have a lot of praise for the staff, they are professional, approachable, courteous and really make you feel at home during your stay. The positive personalities (and always smiling) members of the Tropica staff make it a very unique experience in comparison to the bigger chain resorts. There are many positives to Tropica. It is a small resort set amongst a calm bay. The pool overlooking the bay is perfect, as are the sunsets at the bar. The food options are really good, such as Wednesday dinner event -Fiji feast. There's plenty of food options and I gravitated towards the local Fijian cuisine on offer each night. Also the snorkeling tours are a fun and active way to pay explore the area before retiring back to the pool area reading a book.We definitely will come back!Brian D8/25/2024
